Netflix has secured North American distribution rights to the science fiction thriller "I Am Mother" following its premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The streaming giant had previously obtained rights for multiple international markets.

The film marks the directorial debut of Grant Sputore, working from a screenplay penned by Michael Lloyd Green. The story originated from a collaboration between Sputore and Green.

The narrative centers on a young woman who represents humanity's first new generation following extinction-level events. Raised in isolation by an artificial intelligence called Mother—a sophisticated robot engineered to rebuild human civilization—the teenager's worldview shatters when a wounded outsider appears.
